[Ren's eyes follow Akechi's movements, from the gaze, to the gifts, and back up. He's speaking plainly- more than Ren thinks he's ever heard from him- and it still catches feeling in his throat. He wants to help. He wants to fix it for him.
Some part of him wonders if this is what he sounded like to everyone he's ever helped, everyone who he's insisted on getting into their personal business while they stood there failing to understand why someone would do this for them. Would do this for him. Of course, his feelings for Akechi are irrational at best, but--
The thought that everything he wanted wasn't some kind of lie. That this time, the other boy wouldn't slip through his fingers, but fly willingly to his hands. That there is a waiting need, a real desire coming not just from him, but to him as well.
He wants to feel that sort of brush that Akechi gives the flowers to his skin, to his face. But is that something he really deserves to ask for?]
I don't think I can owe you the concept of helping me. And I don't want you to think that you're... responsible.
[For it. For him. For everything.]
Helping me means working with me. Not just... trying to save me.
But Akechi leaves the gifts on the table to step towards Ren instead, facing him directly, wanting his sharp gaze do dance and dart along the other's expression, his eyes, the tension in his shoulders.]
I don't feel responsible in the way you worry I do. Of course I wasn't at fault for any of this, I wasn't even in the same space. [He'd been elsewhere, of course, causing his own problems.] But you weren't responsible for it either.
[Causing his own problems is right. And yet, Ren can't help the way his heart jumps in his chest at you weren't responsible, and again at I want to keep you safe. He can't be worth that much. He can't be worth-- all this.
But considering they've been through the emotional rollercoaster of a century in the last 24 hours, he's not going to push this one- even his heart can't take it right now. So he looks at Akechi directly, lets a little smile pull at the corner of his mouth.]
Then you have to accept these gifts. Because I say so.
[He tilts his head a bit down, looking at Akechi over the top of his glasses, just a little peek of those eyes.]
[Akechi watches Ren agonize with himself over this, over letting anyone even consider helping him with this nightmare he's stumbled into, but finally - finally - he relents.
And if the selfless martyr Ren Amamiya can relent enough to allow himself to be saved, than maybe Goro Akechi can give in just a touch as well.]
Fine. It'll be the first Valentine's Day gift I've ever received to not end up in the trash. Consider that as the compliment it is.

I'm going to know if you get rid of them.

[He knows it is. And he'll take that. It's better than what he expected to get out of today, by far.]
Well, um... I'll see you later, then? Give you your space back and all.
[And if Akechi doesn't force him to stick around, he'll make his way out so he can go blush in private, thank you very much.]
